Praise in the press for TOP 10 HITS
'There’s murder on the dance floor in this poptastic page-turner!'
Jeff Maysh, Loaded
'It rocks and shocks!'
Total Guitar magazine
'It's a book perfect for anyone who cringes at R&B divas or finds TV talent show wannabes horribly annoying. The book's protagonist and large parts of the story are set in Bath and locals will especially enjoy the adventures in to some of Bristol and Bath's grungy pubs'
Bath Chronicle
'Well, well, well, somebody wants to murder his Top 10 most-hated pop stars. Could be Spinal Tap goes weird or it just could be true. One thing is for sure – I’m just glad I’m not on the Hit List!'
Suzi Quatro, BBC Radio 2
'How would you like to see an end to that annoying R&B crooner or talentless Pop Idol singer who clogs up the airwaves incessantly? Then you need to check out TOP 10 HITS – it’s the debut novel by Peter Travers and it’s something of a hoot. Without giving too much away, it involves a cynical music journo, a savvy snapper and an ever-thickening plot that sees numerous pop stars meeting their maker in the most creative ways.
A thumping great read set to be a No.1 hit, it's packed with good old-fashioned mystery and intrigue and is a must for anyone who loves their books as well as their beats.'
iDJ magazine
'Breathless entertainment'
Venue magazine
'Wickedly entertaining – it's a hit!'

'I couldn't put it down!'
‘TOP 10 HITS is a quirky narrative of life through music journalist Hardy's eyes – his amusing penchant for taking the piss out of the bands he interviews, his likeable laid-back style, and his silly sense of humour makes his observations about the people and places he encounters immensely entertaining. As a Bristol lass I particularly liked the atmospheric descriptions of grungy pubs and haunts in Bristol and Bath. The comic slant is contrast against the gritty backdrop of a brutal killer, intent on creatively cleansing the charts of bland manufactured pop music, which means the novel is amusing and cosy one minute then really quite shocking the next. Overall, it’s very exciting – I couldn't put it down!
The whole premise of the novel, its cynicism with today's vacuous, talentless charts, stayed with me long after I'd finished reading and switched the radio back on.’

'A talented writer with a sick sense of humour'
‘Who doesn't want to knock off a few modern pop sensations!? Peter Travers is a talented writer with a sick sense of humour.'
Chris Shirley
'Very compelling and enjoyable'
‘A fresh, fast-paced, action-packed thriller. A very compelling and enjoyable read! Brilliant.’

'Made me laugh out loud'
‘With so much musical dross out there, either in reality show drivel, or manufactured rubbish; it is refreshing to read a book that has a subject matter mirroring what most people think. The lead characters Hardy and Sophie are so brilliantly written they feel like your best mates, the killer so genuine screwed up and yet quite human and rational in his decision making. Set in the backdrop of Bath and London the story builds pace and tension, and at times I wanted to shout at the page! ‘he is in the other room!’.
Parts of the book made me laugh out loud, not many books can do that, it’s as though the writer understands what makes people laugh.
The killings are suitably fantastic in their craziness going from one extreme to another, however the real victim is Sadie I cannot help but feel for her the most. Read it and you will see my point.
If you want to read a book that's bang up to date, exciting, and a genuine page turner then give this a go, this author is very gifted and clearly flying without wings! (Sorry about that!).’

'As good as any Richard & Judy Book Club read!'
‘I challenge anyone to read this book and have the ability to put it down. Once you start reading it'll trap you in. TOP 10 HITS is easily as good as any Richard & Judy Book Club read that I've been guilty of perusing!’

'We've all fantasised about bumping off the cast of X-Factor, right?'
‘I really enjoyed TOP 10 HITS – it's a real page-turner and I couldn't put it down. The characters were all very three-dimensional, I swear I've met some of them stalking round the office where I work. I was very impressed by the ingenious ways Peter Travers came up with to kill people off. I was raised watching Taggart and always loved interesting deaths so I particularly liked the Abbey Road recording booth method. Anyone with a bone of musical taste in their body will love this book: after all, we've all fantasised about bumping off the entire cast of X-Factor, right?'

'This is a must-read book'
‘As someone who enjoys the singing on most 'talent' shows every bit as much as a poke in the ear with a sharp stick, this book proved the perfect antidote. Instead of grinding my teeth while those around me were glued to the latest round of TV's X Factor, I escaped to the spare room and the dark, dangerous yet sometimes hilarious world of TOP 10 HITS, where a fiendishly psychotic hitman aims to put an end to pop pap. I found the book deeply shocking, mostly because I've never before developed an open admiration for a monstrously cold-blooded killer but, ultimately, it's just a perfectly justifiable case of Sympathy for the Devil (written, of course, by Jagger and Richards rather than some formulaic and faceless song-writing committee and their computer). If you like good music and gruesome murder on a grand scale, this is a must-read book.’
Matthew Richards
'If you like Nick Hornby and Ben Elton you’ll love Peter Travers'
'A really enjoyable page-turner. It kept me up late as I couldn't put it down. Loved it. If you like Nick Hornby, Ben Elton, Mike Gayle and Louise Wener you will love Peter Travers, he slots right in there with them all!'
Louise Day
'Lots of clever twists'
'TOP 10 HITS is a great book – I couldn’t stop reading it. It’s really well written with lots of clever twists all the way to the end. It easily stands up against other top fiction books I’ve read recently.'
Nick Buss
'Laughed out loud lots'
'Really enjoyed it, made me laugh out loud lots of times!'
Bego Garcia
'Excellent from start to finish'
'An excellent, pacey read from start to finish, with each hit getting more and more macabre. I'm definitely looking forward to the second book from Peter Travers.'
Marc Peters
'An impressive first novel that would make a hit movie'
'A riotous page turner that'll have anyone who enjoys a pint or ten licking their lips as the action unfolds. Your sense of right and wrong gets truly tested throughout, as one minute you're rooting for the hero and the next you're cheering on the killer! An impressive first novel full of fresh ideas that would make this a hit movie...'
